An Archive of Our Own Me and my college roommates decided to play a little game after getting a little drunk; Name one thing/celebrity/character and type it into AO3. We went around in circles typing in Kermit the Frog, Mr. Beast, Markiplier, and Weird Al while laughing and cringing at the various smut someone had decided to grace the internet with. Everything was going fine until someone yelled out anothers name. The next few suggestions kept being each others names despite no results until it reached me. I typed my name in and something popped up in the character search tab. Daniel Thomas Was there a character named Daniel Thomas? My name was a little generic so it was possible. I clicked with shaky hands and one single result popped up. "Love in a bottle" with only two characters, one being me and the other one named "Jess Stone". It had barely any tags except generic stuff like Romance and Fluff. I clicked on it and began to read. The author began to describe me down to what I was wearing and events that took place in my life, except with the addition of a girl named Jess Stone being inserted in as a love interest. I read the fanfic despite my head spinning in confusion and slight terror. Who wrote this? How did they know so much about me? As I finished, I realized everyone had gone to bed. I looked back at the Ao3 Story, 4 more chapters sat unread. I stared at the screen, not sure what to think. It had to be a coincidence? I googled Jess Stone and got little to no results of anyone named that around my city. Late night shift I used to work at a mom and pop dollar store when I was in college. I carried out stocking the shelves and making them look nice, mainly working at night. I've met a handful of oddballs, druggies, and other strange individuals but one specifically comes at the top of the list. One summer night, I was about in hour in my shift when I noticed a well dressed man stop and stare at me through my peripheral vision. I turned and asked if needed anything, but he just stared deeply and remained silent before backing in between the aisles. I disregarded this and continued to place new products on the shelves until I spotted him again, peeping from another aisle into where I was. I turned my head quickly, but he was already gone. I walked up to where I saw him and didn't see anything. Whatever, this is just some junkie. I went back to my job, but I still felt his presence watching me. Near the end of my shift, I saw him in full view. I told him "Buy something or leave". He exited the store and stood watching me outside. I clocked out 10 minutes later and walked out to my car. He was parked right next to me, just sitting in his car. I drove off and luckily managed to avoid him following me. When I woke up in the morning, I noticed a new car out in the driveway. It was his. The morgue When you're young, you'll get into some bad situations due to your naive stupidity. When I was 17, me and my best friend decided to sneak into a college frat party as one final celebration before we graduated the following semester. I just told my parents I was sleeping over at his house, his parents were alcoholics who wouldn't notice we were gone. 11 PM, we left the house through his window and hopped in his car. As one of his mixtape CDs emitted the sound of Gwar from the radio, I imagined all the booze, drugs, and hot girls that would be present at a frat party. We arrived after 30 minutes travelling, we parked our car in the public parking lot by the school and exited. The campus was eerily silent, not a single sound could be heard. I asked him if he knew where the frat house was at and he shrugged. "They're always having parties, and you can hear that shit a mile away. Just follow the sound." I grew pissed off, the entire campus was silent and there was no sound for miles. "What sound? This place is deserted, is there even a confirmed party today?" He stayed quiet as we walked down the campus until we spotted a campus police car driving around in the distance. Scared we were going to get caught, we walked quietly to a building and managed to enter. We were still on edge, so I decided to hide in an unlocked room while my friend kept an eye out if campus security approached. I checked every door until I found one that propped open slightly. The room was dark and smelled of rot and decay. I felt along the walls until I hit a light switch. When the lights went up, I saw the corpses around me. I was in a morgue of sorts, 3 corpses sat on steel beds across from me. I stood in silence until the lights flickered, before snapping off. I was submerged in darkness, the sickly sweet smell of rot around me. I left my phone at my friends house incase my parents attempted to locate me. I stood in silence until the lights came back on. I looked around with a sigh of relief before noticing the material covering the corpses had been pulled back, their faces twisted in a wide stretched grin. I ran for the door and bumped into my friend. Rest of the night was spent playing video games until sunrise. |
